The hydrogen bus will be operated by MZK Konin in the first place in Poland. The bus transport company from Konin has announced a tender for a 4-year lease of a bus powered by hydrogen. The hydrogen bus will have 12 meters length, a min. 70 kW fuel cell and hydrogen tanks for 30 kg of fuel. MZK Konin plans that the new hydrogen bus will be launched in the second quarter of 2022.
The order for the hydrogen bus is the result of the works of the Wielkopolska Hydrogen Valley, where in addition to new hydrogen vehicles, there will also be hydrogen refueling stations. The hydrogen refueling station will be provided by ZE PAK at ul. Poznańska in Konin. Encouraged by this fact, MZK Konin decided to rent a bus with fuel cells for a period of 4 years. The first hydrogen bus will be 12 meters long and will seat 60 people, including 26 seated passengers. The bus does not have to be a brand new – it should be no more than 6 months old and no more than 500 kilometers. The bus manufacturer will also provide parts and authorize the service to operate the hydrogen bus. Some experience in this area was brought by the tests of the Solaris Urbino 12 Hydrogen bus, which were carried out in Konin in January 2021.
Hydrogen refuelled to the bus should provide minimum range of 300 kilometers at single refuelling. The capacity of the hydrogen tanks was determined at 30 kg, and the maximum hydrogen consumption at 10 kg / 100 kilometers. The H35 hydrogen tanks are to have a water capacity of 1400 L. The fuel cell is to have a power of at least 70 kW. The motor or electric motors are to have 150 kW of power and the possibility of energy recovery during braking. The operation of the system will be stabilized by a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of at least 29 kWh. On board the bus you will find all modern amenities, such as low floor, air conditioning and a passenger information system. MZK Konin estimates that the cost of the bus will be approx. 703,000 Euro (about PLN 3.2 million).
