Subsidy for 20 hydrogen buses in Silesia Region

Hydrogen buses for Silesia with co-financing from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. As part of the 'Hydrogen GZM’ project, the Metropolis GZM, the organizer of public transport in the Silesian Agglomeration, received PLN 81 mln (18 mln EUR) for 20 buses equipped in fuel cell. Hydrogen buses will go to the streets of Silesia Region by 2024. Mechanics and drivers will also be trained to operate hydrogen buses.

Hydrogen will power the first fleet of 20 hydrogen buses. Hydrogen-powered public transport vehicles will go to the carriers of the Metropolis GZM. By allocating PLN 81 million (EUR 18 million), the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) wants to reduce the emission of PM10 – solid particles that are hazardous to health. The Hydrogen GZM project will allow also to train drivers and mechanics of the bus depot.

The total investment in hydrogen buses will be PLN 110.7 million (EUR 24.6 million). The eligible costs of the GZM are PLN 90 million PLN, 90% of which will be co-financed with the budget of PLN 81 million from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. The total state pool of funds for emission-free buses and electric cars by 2040 at the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management will amount to PLN 4.7 billion. The fuel cell buses will be of the M3 class FCEV – Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle class. The new hydrogen buses will have all modern amenities, such as a completely low floor, air conditioning in the passenger compartment, a passenger information system, wifi and USB chargers. The buses will set off on the Silesian routes until June 30, 2024.
